Bio

Born in Vancouver, BC to two French Canadian parents, but mostly raised in Ottawa, ON, Matthieu Savard is an electric and upright bass player currently residing in Toronto, ON. 

Matthieu's musical journey started when he was eight, first learning the guitar. On the guitar, he spent his early years exploring many popular genres of music learning both electric and classical guitar. It is at sixteen that he was introduced to Jazz. Still green to the genre, he chose to pursue a post secondary education at Humber College in order to further explore the music. Nonetheless, at the college, he discovered his natural inclination towards the bass. After re-auditioning and being accepted to the bachelor's degree on electric bass, it is a few month later that he started learning upright bass.

Today, his greatest musical influences and interests remain music rooted in the Jazz/BAM tradition however, Matt plays a variety of music and does not lock his musical collaborations to any genres. Other areas of musical interest include traditional folk/classical music's of varied cultures.


Matthieu holds a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto and Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Humber College. He is a recipient of many awards including the Lenny Boyd Memorial Award, Gordon and Ann Wragg Music Scholarship and, France-Canada Cultural Exchange Experience France Awards. This award allowed him to briefly live and study in Paris in the Winter of 2024.


You can regularly hear him playing live with a variety of projects ranging from Jazz, Folk, and Classical throughout Toronto and southern Ontario.
